In honor of Nate Colbert’s 75th birthday on April 9, 2021, I shared a record he set in 1972.
The 1972 Padres scored 488 runs. Colbert either drove in or scored 160 total runs, for a whopping 32.8% of the Padres’ total offense. Colbert had surpassed the old record of 32.5% of a team’s offense, held by Wally Berger since 1935.
What is particularly impressive is that Babe Ruth and Chuck Klein accounted for over 30% of offense on teams that were nearly twice as potent as the 1972 Padres.
