I saw someone say that Clayton Kershaw is tremendously overrated and people need to stop comparing him to Sandy Koufax. It's true, the two can't be compared - The Claw has two inches and 15 lbs on Koufax. :-)
But seriously, both won three Cy Young awards in a four-year span, led the league in ERA five times over the course of their careers, wins three times and WHIP four times. And both have led the league in strikeouts multiple times. At face value, those put you in category somewhere above mere mortals, and are pretty comparable. What am I missing?
I didn't have the good fortune of watching Koufax pitch, but you don't get called "The Left Arm of God" for nothing. He was my first round pick in the Retrotisserie Baseball 1960 league. He wasn't the best pitcher available - that was Don Drysdale - but he was top 10 and I really look forward to building a pitching staff around his 1963 season.
I've seen Kershaw pitch, and he's pretty special. I can't wait until one of my leagues gets to 2008 and we have a great excuse to use fantasy baseball metrics to see just how dominant he was.
